Lisbon and Surroundings

 

The Lisbon region – is the capital itself, and the beautiful and prestigious nearby towns of Cascais, Estoril and Sintra, located on the Lisbon Riveira, stretching towards the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon (blessed bay) – is the capital of Portugal, located on the seven hills of the Tejo river valley, where it meets the Atlantic ocean.

 

Informal and relaxed atmosphere, friendliness of its locals, a unique mixture of architectural styles throughout its streets, all this makes Lisbon a favourite city for many visitors. No wonder Lisbon was elected Best City Break Destination in 2013 by World Travel Awards and has been most rising tourism destination in Europe over the past few years.

 

Old tramps going up and down the narrow meandering streets of historic neighbourhoods, noisy cafés spread the smell of fabulous coffee and delicious pastry, and the Atlantic brings in a cool ocean breeze on a hot summer day.

 

Since the 16th century, Estoril has been the residence of the Portuguese and international elite, while Sintra was the official summer residence of the royal Family and Portuguese Duques and also the birthplace of adorable fairy tales by Hans Christian Anderson.

 

Cascais was initially a fishermen´s village is now considered the most prestigious town in Portugal, with modern days villas, colourful and international town, golf courses, and fabulous stretch of dunes and sand beaches.

Algarve

 

Algarve – is the vacation destination for the Portuguese and very popular among the Europeans, with regional capital - Faro. Here the climate is very warm and pleasant, on average about 320 days of sunshine and the ocean water is between 22-25 degrees from June to October.

 

Algarve has everything for everybody: historic towns and villages, modern tourist resorts, fantastic beaches, hotels of any category, diverse cultural life and tons of attraction spots for any age category. Algarve golf clubs are voted the best in Europe by World Travel Awards and welcome guests any time of the year.

 

In the Algarve, you can find the largest choice of real estate to suit any taste. While the prices for the same kind of property are comparing lower then in Lisbon.

 

In the Algarve there is a strong presence of Arabic history of this region, which until today has an interesting influence on style and architecture of local houses and villas. With easy highway access from the Algarve, you can reach the neigbouring Andalucia region of Spain, with fabulous cities of Sevilla, Cordoba, Malaga, Marbella and Granada. About 500 km away from the Algarve is located the winter ski resort Sierra Nevada.

 

Porto and the North

 

North of Portugal is green, forest and mountain region, where there is most rainfall and the weather just a bit more spiky than the rest of the country. This region is notorious for its light industrial production, including textile and footwear.

 

The capital, Porto, is the second largest city in Portugal and is located 270 km from Lisbon. The historic centre of Porto is situated on the right bank of Douro river, a few km away from where it reaches the Atlantic. The city centre is named UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. This year Porto was also named the Best European Destination 2014. 

 

Besided Porto, there are fantastic historic cities of Braga, Guimarães and Vila Real. Special place in the north has the Douro river and its valley, decorated with some of the best wine yards in Portugal, the origin of Portugal´s best wines and world famous Portwine.
